About our History, Subsidiaries and Goals. By Dr. Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi. Group Managing Director, Obijackson Group.
“It is remarkable what has been achieved by sheer focus and tenacity in hard work. And with that same mind set for the future, the sky is the limit.”
About 30 years ago, the story of the Obijackson Group began with Obijackson West Africa Limited. The little known company grew over time with a lot of hard work and tenacity to become specialists in commodities trading and production –trading extensively along the west African coast. After a few years, an opportunity presented itself in the Oil & Gas industry, which we utilized to form an indigenous EPCC company called Nestoil.
That was how the journey of acquiring a world class stature started more than 21 years ago. Today, Nestoil PLC has become an ISO 9001:2008 certified company, executing each of their projects with the same winning attitude and technical expertise that is next to none.
In the process, Nestoil has set unrivaled records, particularly in groundbreaking pipeline construction projects such as the Shell 20″ Kolo-Creek – Rumuekpe Trunkline Replacement Project (KCTL) and the Shell 24″ Nembe Creek-Cawthorne Channel Trunkline replacement project (NCTL).
We are currently pioneering a pipeline construction technique that renders oil loss/theft virtually impossible. The cutting edge technique, never used in Nigeria will help eliminate the risk of illegal tapping, spillage or explosions along the pipeline. This technique is currently being used in the construction of the new 10” X 12” and 18” pipeline for a major IOC due to be completed in the last quarter of 2013.
We are also currently executing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Obiafu/Obrikom – Oben Gas pipeline project (Ob3) with a total length of 127km and a diameter of 48”, this is the largest pipeline ever constructed in Nigeria.
The construction of half of this pipeline (63km) which is critical to the Nigerian Gas Master Plan, was awarded to Nestoil 3rd quarter 2012 and is due to be completed in 2014.
The construction by Julius Berger PLC of our corporate 15 floor new head quarters in the heart of Victoria Island Lagos is moving at great speed to meet the 2015 completion target. This pioneer Green building – the first of its kind in Nigeria is being built to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver standard of certification. It is a great testament of our deep commitment to help protect our environment and world.
Nestoil PLC has recently received the BUREAU VERITAS ISO 9001:2008 certification certificates (UKAS & ANAB) in the following category ENGINEERING, PROCUREMENT, and PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION AND ASSOCIATED FACILITY, DREDGING RIVER CROSSINGS AND SHORELINE PROTECTION.
While executing some of Nestoil’s projects years ago, we encountered needs that did not have readily available solutions in-country, so we formed and equipped companies to meet those needs.
Today, these sister companies within the Obijackson Group have strategically expanded operations in their respective fields. They are:
Energy Works Technology Limited (an ISO 9001:2008n certified company) is a leader in the manufacturing of pressure vessels and process plant as well as steel structures fabrication in West Africa. Energy Works has just completed and delivered thick walled flat pressure vessels for Shell, and has also delivered Production Separators for SEPLAT. Energy Works is UKAS and ANIAB ISO 9001:2008 certified as ASME U. U2, PP, S Stamps Authorised.
B&Q Dredging Limited owns the largest dredging and marine logistics fleet in Nigeria. They continue to carry out major dredging, river crossing, sand filling and reclamation works for companies such as Shell, Saipem and Setraco.
Hammakopp Consortium Limited has expanded its civil and road construction operations and geographical influence with a new operations base in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and an Asphalt plant in Hammakopp Okija operations base which has the capacity of turning out 120 tons of top grade asphalt products per hour.
Gobowen Exploration and Production Limited, the sole operator of the Oriri Marginal Field (OML 88), is preparing for other operational campaigns while working to conclude the acquisition of new assets. Gobowen partnered with Aries Exploration and production limited and Poland’s Kulczyk Oil and Gas in the acquisition of 45% participating interests in OML 42 in the swamps of Niger Delta.
Century Power Generation Limited (CPGL) and Time Power Global Dynamics Limited (TPGDL) are recording great strides in their goal of helping revamp Nigeria’s problematic power industry. CPGL’s Strategy includes the building of new power plants in different parts of the country starting with Okija. Time Power is poised to update the distribution networks to international standards.
The Obijackson Group has awarded the construction of a Modular Floating Dry Dock shipside to Damen Shipyard Rotherdam.
As our Companies continue to grow, needs to create more alliances and joint ventures arise. Currently Nestoil is partnering with a well established European Directional Drilling Company, A.Hak to set up a Joint Venture NestHak for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations in Nigeria and West Africa. The equipment to be made available for a start, will be one 450 tons HDD rig and one 150 ton HDD rig, capable of installation by HDD of crossing from 6” to 48” with a length of max 2,000 meters.
Local engagement and empowerment continue to be central to our group’s philosophy and we are committed to continuing our corporate social responsibility initiatives channeled through the Obijackson Foundation, along with our sustainable socio-economic initiatives within various communities in sports development (our annual Obijackson Football Tournament) and education.
Numerous students from primary to university level are current beneficiaries of the Obijackson Foundation scholarship Project. We are happy to announce that the 2013 Finals of the Obijackson football tournament took place in the brand new St Peters Stadium Okija, which the foundation built in the eastern part of Nigeria.
